Since SCOPEinsight was founded in 2010, we have led the way in developing innovative, universally-applicable assessment tools that measure the level of farmer professionalism in emerging markets. SCOPEinsight believe that farmer professionalism is the key to structural transformation of the agricultural sector. Diana Chiodo

Data Analyst and Business Intelligence Specialist

As Data Analyst and Business Intelligence Specialist, Diana brings forth her rich experience working in agricultural focused international organizations to provide insights on client assessment data and develop strategic best practices.

Prior to SCOPEinsight, Diana worked with the United Nations World Food Programme’s Early Warning and Logistics analyzing agricultural markets, trade, and providing field support. Her agricultural experience is further strengthened by her work with the Food and Agricultural Organization in Mali where she built humanitarian partnerships for the Food Security Cluster.

Diana is passionate about agribusiness value chain analysis and connecting people to sustainable markets. She enjoys the challenges in making sense of data and strategic thinking to find the best opportunities.

Diana holds a MSc. in Food Security and Human Development from Roma Tre University.

Operations and Customer Success Manager

As Operations and Customer Success Manager at SCOPEinsight, Carolina brings several years of management experience to her responsibility of monitoring operations.  This experience is complemented by her personable demeanor and polyglot capabilities to foster relationships with clients and operational partners at implementation level.

Her prior experience includes her work at the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) as a project assistant where she provided outstanding project management backstopping to the Pacific region as well as in Eastern and Southern Africa by providing overall project monitoring, communication among stakeholders and organizing conferences.  Furthermore, she was an active member of internal working groups on business intelligence and change management.

Carolina holds a MSc. Degree in International Relations at Utrecht University.

Gerbrand Meijer

Innovation Manager

Gerbrand is an Innovation Manager with a track record in broadcast and media. Gerbrand has worked on demanding projects in complex organisations like broadcaster RTL and Schiphol Airport. Here he has achieved sustainable results by openly addressing problems head-first. He is an optimistic person yet very realistic about the opportunities and limitations of what technology can achieve, a rare quality in the often reality-distorted tech world.

As an engineer he learned that creative freedom and focus on quality is how to lead and motivate the best developers. As a project manager he experienced how tough it can be to realize excellence in a corporate environment. Today he helps organisations to innovate by building the skills, team and architecture to make practical use of the latest technology.

Besides consulting, Gerbrand runs a series of ventures and experiments in IoT, machine learning, serverless infrastructure and marketing automation to understand and evaluate the latest and greatest. In his spare time, you can often find him sailing and maintaining a skûtsje, the traditional sailing cargo boats/engineering marvel of the late 19th century.

John Cherek

Strategic Sales Manager

As Strategic Sales Manager, John uses his open and professional style to help our clients find the services that will fit their needs.  He leads our efforts in connecting with our clients to create a common vision around farmer professionalism and therefore enhancing systems change.

John has a rich background in agriculture – in the Netherlands. His previous position as a program director and social entrepreneur for a sustainable agricultural and community development project in the Netherlands has helped him understand the challenges of balancing the capacity of mother nature with the demands of value chain players.  This, alongside his corporate wholesale experience in fresh ingredients, makes for an eclectic yet well-rounded point of reference for all your agricultural program and systems transformation needs.

John holds as Master’s degree in Political Science (2009) from the University of Amsterdam and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Seattle University (2000).  His work and travels have brought him to many parts of the world (Siberia, Sierra Leone, Seattle) and so he feels right at home with his international client portfolio.

Jem Kipgen

Operations Officer

As Operations Officer, Jem Kipgen is responsible for overseeing assessment processes and maintaining the IT systems that support the operational processes. He also developed the e-training methods for assessors and is experienced in managing e-trainings for different clients. Furthermore, Jem is responsible for data mining.

Before joining SCOPEinsight, he worked in India and the USA, where he gained experience in project management, IT Web development and programming.

Jem holds a BA degree in Computer Information Systems and Applied Economics from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota and an MSc in Business Administration, with a specialization in Finance, from TiasNimbas Business School in Utrecht.

Lucas Simons is founder and CEO of two companies: SCOPEinsight and NewForesight, a strategic consultancy company working on sustainable market transformation.

Previously, Lucas was director of UTZ CERTIFIED, a leading global certification and sustainability standard organization for sustainable coffee, cocoa and tea.

In 2011, he was honored as Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum for his commitment and accomplishments in the field of sustainable trade, agriculture and rural development. In 2013 he became Ashoka Fellow for his pioneering role as a social entrepreneur and systemic change maker. In February 2015, he was announced member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).

For three consecutive years (2011, 2012, 2013) Simons has ranked in the top 20 of most influential persons in Sustainable Development in the Netherlands (Trouw Newspaper).

Lucas Simons holds an MSc Environmental Hygiene degree from Wageningen University and an MBA degree with Merit from Tias-Nimbas Graduate School of Management.

Senior Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist (Full time, based in Utrecht, the Netherlands)

We are looking for a person who can use our SCOPE data to help find answers to the bigger issues in agriculture. How can the SCOPE assessment data help provide solutions and answers to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals more efficiently or effectively? How can we use SCOPE assessment data in our marketing and communication?

Your task consists of developing tools, refining our Theory of Change and ensuring that our tools collect the right data in the right way. You would also be responsible for 1 – 2 junior/trainee data analysts who would focus more on assisting sales and could do client specific research projects under your direction.

Are you the right person for the job?


The Data Analyst plays a key role in the process and it may include the following:

Tool Development

  • Responsible for the ‘SCOPE Methodology’ development of new tools and refinement of existing SCOPE assessment tools while ensuring that they meet the needs of our clients.
  • Responsible for the development of the content of the SCOPEinsight Business Intelligence tools and products.

Ensure Added Value of the SCOPE tools

This means ensuring that:

  • the right data is collected through our tools to lead to insights that lead to more effective and efficient professionalization
  • The SCOPEinsight Theory of Change of Change is substantiated and validated

Provide Consultancy

  • Manage and/or conduct data analysis for our clients; advise clients on how they can use the SCOPE data to maximize the benefit for them.
  • Conduct research, with (knowledge) partners, to measure the impact of the SCOPE methodology, at client level, FO/coop level and farmer level.
  • Measure impact in the ecosystem.

Tool development

  • Responsible for the SCOPE Methodology, from the questions we ask in an assessment to the way we calculate and interpret the scores.
  • manage/participate in the process of tool development (ensuring that our prerequisites are met)
  • translate real-world situations into logical questionnaires
  • Take the lead in the production of standardized data products (reports, dashboards)
  • Develop partnerships with knowledge institutions, co-developers
  • Develop and substantiate our theory of change
  • Develop and build on existing Theory of Change to:
  • translate results of assessments to logical next steps for all stakeholders

Competencies

  • Strong background in measuring impact of Agricultural projects in developing countries (for example in an M&E role at a NGO or corporation)
  • Independent personality, self-starting and self-motivating
  • Strong knowledge of and background in statistics
  • Keep a clear overview, set and keep priorities in a dynamic and demanding environment
  • Ability to find the stories behind the data
  • Positive attitude, can-do mentality
  • Systematic problem-solving mindset
  • A pro-active attitude and collaborative skills
  • Ability to present and communicate clearly internally and externally, in a truly international environment

Education and experience

  • Quantitative background (master’s degree in an area such as Business Mathematics & Informatics
  • Extensive experience in the agribusiness sector and agricultural systems in developing countries
  • Experience in quantitative research methodologies
  • Excellent English – and preferably also the Dutch – language skills. Language skills in Spanish and/or French are highly preferred
  • Knowledge of SQL is a great plus
  • Experience with statistical tools
  • Excellent skills in Excel and other Office tools
  • Experience creating dynamic data visualizations (for example with Qlik, Tableau, or other visualization tools) is a plus.
