Vacancy: Innovation Manager

To help us deliver a state of the art global system to advance the professionalism of farmer organizations (FO) and agribusinesses and increase their access to markets and finance, we are looking for an experienced and high-performing:

Innovation Manager (Full time)

As SCOPEinsight’s Innovation Manager you are part of the management team and responsible for developing and implementing our innovation strategy. The questions you will work on, on a daily basis include:

  • What does a standardized methodology to enhance professionalism need to do to be accepted and understood by all users?
  • How can the SCOPEinsight tools, systems, training and implementation support help to lower the costs of the users while increasing their impact?
  • How can we create and deliver meaningful and actionable insights for all users which include the farmers, but also the corporates, financial institutions and donors?

To answer these questions, you will work closely with our clients and partners who are global NGOs, multilaterals, donors and corporates and who share an interest in advancing the professionalism of FOs and agribusinesses. You understand each of their challenges and needs and can translate these into solutions. You will also collaborate closely with the operations team to ensure our innovations help us increase client satisfaction and with the sales team to unsure there is a market for our solution. You will be part of an international and ambitious team, working globally from our office in Utrecht.

At SCOPEinsight we believe that the livelihoods of farmers can be improved if farming is approached as a business. The more professional these businesses, the more sustainable and the more they will be able to access to markets and finance. We also believe in solutions that are scalable, market-led and address root causes. At the core of our system is a unique methodology that measures and scores the level of professionalism of FOs and agribusinesses. In the past 8 years, over 2600 assessments were conducted with over 60 partners in more than 38 countries and 26 sectors. These projects led to lessons learned and at the same time demonstrated the great potential. Therefore, we are looking for you!

What does your job as an Innovation Manager at SCOPEinsight look like?

  1. You will create our innovation strategy. Based on your vision of the opportunities of a well-functioning ecosystem and considering the available resources, you can translate this vision into an actionable roadmap, setting clear priorities.
  2. You will execute the innovation strategy. Maintain, develop and improving (new) products and services that make up our standardized solution.

This includes:

Assessment tools: you are responsible to develop and maintain a suite of SCOPE Assessment tools that measure professionalism of farmer organizations and agribusinesses in a scalable and standardized manner. This includes the development of new assessment methodologies in co-development with our clients if sufficient demand is demonstrated.

Training material: you are responsible to develop and maintain online training material used to train people to become SCOPE Certified Assessors and/or Financial Specialists. This also includes developing new trainings for other target groups, such as proposal writers, program managers, M&E professionals and data analyst.

IT system: in close collaboration with our external IT developer, you manage the development of the IT systems, which make the implementation of the standardized solution, including the assessment tools, easy and scalable. Also, keeping all options open to link the system to other systems in the sector that add value.

Knowledge library: expand and enhance the existing knowledge library including manuals, templates and checklists for implementation so our clients and partners can ensure an optimal use of the SCOPE solution.

Business intelligence: you coordinate the disbursement or embedding of interactive data analysis in our system, in close cooperation with our Data Analyst, to provide business intelligence to clients and partners on their projects and programs.

  1. You are a member of the Management Team. You take management decisions and will be responsible for a limited number of internal management tasks. The Innovation Manager reports to the general manager of SCOPEinsight.

In view of the above, our ideal Innovation Manager:

  • Thinks strategic, has an entrepreneurial and professional drive: sees opportunities even before they present themselves;
  • Understands the development sector at large, and especially the local context of FOs.
  • Has a clear notion of the role SCOPEinsight plays in the professionalization of agriculture at a global scale and can keep this focus;
  • Takes initiative and can motivate (potential) partners to join forces;
  • Is a team player: inspires and coaches team members to achieve company goals;
  • Has a ‘can do’ and hands-on mentality, imperative for a small team;
  • Can, if necessary, take up tasks outside the job description if they are imperative for SCOPEinsight;
  • Is an extrovert, confident, as well as a good listener and a good communicator;
  • Has good technical and process knowledge of the innovation of products and systems;
  • Has proven and relevant working experience in innovation processes, in collaboration with partners;
  • Preferably has experience in a standard or rating organization;
  • Is fluent in English. Other languages like French, Spanish or Portuguese is a strong plus.
