Since 2010 SCOPEinsight has pioneered and developed universally-applicable assessment tools and services for measuring and benchmarking the level of professionalism farmers and farmer organizations in emerging markets. The assessments can be applied across region, sector, crop and farmer segments and the data generated informs a better decision making process to create opportunities in agriculture.

IFC and SCOPEinsight share the same goal and commitment to farmers’ professionalization and development at scale, based on a common vision, definition and standardized methodology. By increasing their level of professionalism farmers can have access to markets, finance, training and inputs. IFC has partnered with SCOPEinsight since 2013 and has played a key role in the development of the assessment tools, providing technical and financial support. The tools have subsequently been tested, proven and brought to scale.

With this strategic partnership, IFC and SCOPEinsight aim to focus on:
– The continuous improvement of the existing tools to make them even more user-friendly, cost-efficient and scalable
– The development of new tools and the possible customization of existing tools to respond to market and clients’ needs
– The development of an infrastructure to scale up through the launch of an assessor network, and the positioning of the tool as the standard in the agribusiness sector

Tania Lozansky, Global Head of Advisory, Manufacturing Agribusiness and Services at IFC, said “smallholder farmers and farmer organizations play an important role in the supply chains of many of our agribusiness clients. We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with SCOPEinsight because we share the vision that promoting farming as a business is essential to improved smallholder productivity as well as access to finance and markets. To make this effort scalable and cost efficient, we need a set of common metrics for the industry”.

“This strategic partnership is a true milestone for a small organization like SCOPEinsight. For the past three years IFC has believed in our mission and has shared our vision. IFC has been a key partner in the development of SCOPEinsight by co-investing in our tools and now SCOPEinsight is IFC’s preferred partner to measure professionalism in agribusiness” said Lucas Simons, Founder and CEO of SCOPEinsight. He added “we look forward to innovating further and advancing professionalism together”

IFC has also been instrumental in the setup and launch of the Agribusiness Market Ecosystems Alliance (AMEA). Initiated by SCOPEinsight and co-founded with IFC, ICCO, VECO, NCBA CLUSA, ACDI/VOCA, ABN AMRO, IDH and Argidius, AMEA is a global multi-stakeholder platform which aims to provide a standardized and quality-controlled approach to professionalizing farmers. IFC is the chair of the board of AMEA.
